Season 5 premiered on September 30, 2012. It picked up after the cliffhanger of The Crimson Hat, with the episode, The Crimson Ticket. The main focus of this season is discovering the identity of Red John and figuring out what the connection Lorelei Martins has to him.
Finally on May 5th, 2013, the season came to an end with its 22nd episode.
As always, the charming wit of Patrick Jane kept us mesmerized but a few issues need to be addressed by the writers if the want their viewership back again. Official data says that the viewership has been decreasing since the 4th season and its no wonder why. Enough with RED JOHN! This has been going on since the beginning and now its hopeless. I get it, not revealing Red John's identity is a mystery and people loves mystery but seriously, it has been long enough.
Moreover, you don't show your main character/hero to be that weak! Red John has always been a step ahead of him. How the hell did he find out about Patrick's happy memory? This is just sad. Its as if Patrick is a rag doll being controlled by the villain- who is of supreme power.
What this show now desperately needs is to end the Red John feud and develop another story or link a backstory. For example, when Beckett finally gave up on going after her mother's killer in CASTLE, Castle and her relationship developed- which was fun.
The Mentalist has always been one of my favourite shows, but now its becoming boring. Yes, i want to know how Patrick will get Red John behind bars. For me, its like a personal revenge, a vendetta. I want Red John to suffer and if the show does not give me that, maybe its time to finally stop watching this. Just give me a call when this nonsense ends.
